The Definitive Buddy Holly Collection submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 9:10pm This is possibly the definitive collection of Buddy Holly’s music, making it essential listening for anyone interested in the early history of rock and roll. Many of the tracks, particularly the demos on the third disc, seem to revolve around very similar (if not identical) chord structures, giving Holly a definitive musical signature and solidifying this type of progression as a stylistic hallmark for him. The songs themselves are relatively simple by modern standards, but they move along quickly and quite a few of them employ timeless, catchy hooks. Buddy Holly didn’t invent the genre, but he is definitely among its important pioneers, and one can only wonder what he would have accomplished had he not died so young.
