COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Low submitted by Roylo56 on July 1, 2011, 3:53pm I found this movie to be vary ridiculous. Old talking in a modern a world. I found it to be very unenjoyable.

Bad submitted by ljq on July 12, 2011, 8:02am This movie is incredibly stupid the way they "recreate" Verona with two feuding gang families. The way they talk is not believable

uhm. submitted by fluting4ever on August 4, 2011, 1:08am The girl was very odd.

Helpfull.... submitted by ColeenT on June 17, 2012, 8:01pm We had to read this for school and the movie kinda help me understand what is going on a little better. However, this movie is very odd and overall stupid.

A product of its time (and Baz) submitted by Pumpkinscones on July 4, 2013, 8:56am What I'm assuming the people who reviewed it above missed is the fact that it was not only a movie but was supposed to be a comment on the 90s/mtv culture etc etc. And for that and for those of us who were 15 at the time, it did well. It was non-challenging, it had guns, it had the dreamboat of the decade and a girl who looked cute dressed as an angel. And we could all relate at all the drug references and think we were hardcore and cool while enjoying a hollywood movie. Don't watch it for R and J, watch it for the glorious movies of the 90s, that were big, brash, colourful and yes, a little bit stupid. I'm off to watch Twister.

Romeo + Juliet submitted by SBNB on July 12, 2014, 10:38pm I liked it back in the day and I still do. It's really not as bad as the reviews here make it out to be.

Good one submitted by pvogiatz on July 30, 2015, 11:51am I think that it is a good one, no bad at all..

Great 90s take on RJ submitted by Beatlesfan04 on July 13, 2018, 3:01pm This really isn't as bad as the reviews say. The actors speak in Shakespeare's English but are set in what was then present-day. It makes the language more accessible to people learning Shakespeare and makes a social commentary on today. Plus young Leo is A++.

Hilarious submitted by granumm on August 31, 2018, 10:25am If you're a Shakespeare purist, this might not be the movie for you. But it has a fun take on the classic story, the same iconic dialogue, and a star-studded 1990s cast.

Romeo + Juliet submitted by lstorc on July 4, 2019, 12:42am Thieyis by far the worst rendition of Romeo and Juliet. It would fall under comedy if it wasn't so painful to watch.

Overrated submitted by SaraP on July 27, 2022, 11:25pm I've seen it a few times, but Claire Danes just doesn't seem to understand what she's actually saying.

This movie is a stamp of an age. submitted by vclinton on July 26, 2023, 9:28pm This movie was truly remarkable for those who experienced it. It introduced a new generation to the beauty of Shakespeare's work in a way that was easily understandable in their own language, while still honoring the original material.

If you lived it, it was everything.
