Steve Martin Makes It Work submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:18pm This rom-com doesn’t have any major surprises in its plot, especially for seasoned genre veterans, but most of its charm lies in Steve Martin’s virtuoso comedic performance as a lovelorn man with an exceptionally large nose. The plot does essentially revolve around tricking the female lead (which leads to one particularly uncomfortable moment that will be a hard no for some viewers), but Martin’s charm and ability to switch rapidly between pathos and fast-paced physical comedy give the film a sense of levity and a unique vibe that sets it apart from other rom-coms of the era (even if it isn’t quite as good). Despite having some reservations with the main plotline, I enjoyed this display of Steve Martin at his best.
