I knew about the song Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend from cultural osmosis, but I hadn't expected the rest of the movie to be such a romp. This is the story of two friends who go abroad, always looking out for each other and getting into hijinks. Marilyn Monroe plays a pragmatic blonde bombshell whole Jane Russell's character is just down for whatever. This movie also features my new favorite bits of child acting, as well as the line "lips like a red couch in an ivory palace" and a musical number featuringa gymnasium full of fit men in skimpy, skin-colored shorts. I'm only giving it four stars because, although enjoyable, a couple of the songs went for too long and not in an engaging way.
