COMMUNITY REVIEWS

The Hobbit submitted by SBNB on August 9, 2013, 5:05pm I liked it. It was entertaining, but I wish they would've stayed closer to the book instead of stretching it into three movies in order to make more money.

slow starting submitted by Kaebib on July 25, 2015, 3:35pm gets betters by the end

Ok submitted by leenajong on July 28, 2015, 9:15pm We enjoyed this one too.

Before the train wreck submitted by FordAlpha on August 28, 2017, 11:04am "The Hobbit" is a fun, fairly tidy little book: "There and Back Again." The trilogy of "Hobbit" movies is a grating, untidy, bloated mess. This first installment is not too bad; there's delight to be found in the depiction of The Shire, in the dwarves' takeover of Bilbo's home, and in the depictions of other favorite events from the book. Unfortunately, someone decided to stuff the story full of weird, creepy side-plots from Tolkein's other writings (mostly unpublished during his lifetime), and they really really get in the way. I admire Tolkein's extensive world-building as much as anybody, but to make a good movie, you need to cut out extraneous background material and tighten up the storyline, not shove a lot of new background material in.

Hobbit submitted by yenkong on August 29, 2017, 11:10am Entertaining. We enjoyed it.

Good submitted by anacoluthon on August 19, 2018, 2:52am Peter Jackson brings us back to Middle Earth with an adaption of The Hobbit! I found the characters delightful, though I also agree that three movies was probably a bit much.

One of my favorites submitted by yufamily on August 18, 2019, 4:01pm Martin Freeman is awesome

Have not read the book submitted by whitta151 on August 5, 2020, 6:20pm For someone who has not read the book, The Hobbit, I thought these movies were great, and even enjoyed them more than Lord of the Rings. Easier to follow!

Good submitted by agiedo on July 8, 2021, 6:46pm I enjoyed this movie.

Hole in the ground submitted by pmysore on July 2, 2022, 10:06am Classic. JRR Tolkien is to this date the best epic fantasy author in my opinion. lot of great scenes in the first movie, but I think the entire Gollum scene and bilbo sparing his life are entertaining to watch.
