Dark comedic fun submitted by KOH on August 13, 2017, 10:53am Great book, good movie.

It was a HUGE surprise to me how TERRIFIC this movie actually was! submitted by Tassos on April 22, 2019, 8:13am Most high school movies are 100%, USDA grade, bovine excrement, impossible to watch without vomiting.

This one is the exception. It is AMAZINGLY good. The script is excellent, the acting is terrific, the movie is now 20 years old but it is a CLASSIC, it is as fresh today as it was back then.

UNBelievably good. Do not miss it. I may even read the silly book on which it is based, if the movie is any indication, this should be a ton of fun too.

"Election" was not a box office success as it grossed only $17.2 million against a budget of $25 million. Which proves that the average Joe Sixpack who pays to watch all kinds of crap in the movie theaters, is really not very bright.

The film, however, was met with critical acclaim.

A Very Specific Sense of Humor submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 11:33am Content Note: This film includes a teacher/high school student relationship, though it mostly serves as background information rather than an active plot point.

This film is definitely built on a certain type of humor, and I can definitely see it being polarizing to different audiences. It’s the rare teen movie that really has an older audience in mind, with an incredibly self-aware sense of humor and a surprisingly philosophical take on the importance of high school. The satirical elements didn’t always land with me, but I did laugh out loud a few times and overall enjoyed the two hours.

Excellent satire submitted by RebeccaWittekindt on July 13, 2023, 3:30pm Not quite what I was expecting. I thought it might be a typical high school movie but it’s much deeper, and quirkier, than that. Both Witherspoon and Broderick give one of their best performances, both playing characters that don’t quite fit their respective tropes. I found it hard to totally root for one over the other.
