Two Thumbs Up submitted by Avliss on July 7, 2014, 3:14pm This is a great film. The psychology aspect really fascinated me, but the cinematography really pulled it together. If you're interested in abnormal psychology, then this is definitely a film to watch.

Very Good submitted by kathscot on June 12, 2015, 11:02pm Not entirely true to his life, but a very nicely told story.

Moving and fulfilling submitted by pej08 on August 5, 2015, 8:01am The movie follows the heartbreaking story of John Nash, a man sent to Princeton with a letter of recommendation that merely stated, "This man is a genius". At Princeton he sets himself apart by skipping classes in an effort to devote all his time to a truly original idea. He makes a breakthrough with his paper on what would later be called "The Nash Equilibrium", an economic concept now used in many areas of economics, business and even computer science. Along the way Nash starts to develop schizophrenic tendencies that bring harm to him and those that love him. It is truly heartbreaking to watch such a monumental genius be degraded in such a tragic way. Although the ending does soften some of the hurt you feel during the movie, this is not a feel good movie. However it is fulfilling and gratifying to watch the story of someone who had such a large impact in so many field. I wish that more movies depicted the lives of great men that profoundly impacted the world that we actually live in, and in such a moving way as this one.

Helps people better understand schizophrenia submitted by ccrose on August 16, 2019, 2:33pm The inner life of a mind drowning in conflicting realities is exhausting. I understand what energy even small steps to reclaim their lives can take.

how should mental illness be portrayed? submitted by FordAlpha on August 29, 2019, 11:22am With its powerful performances and unexpected storytelling twists, this somewhat fictionalized biopic of mathematician John Nash strives to portray schizophrenia in a way that's compassionate toward the sufferer and relatable for others. The device of portraying Nash's delusional thoughts as "real" on-screen characters and events is certainly attention-grabbing and helps those who haven't experienced such an illness to get a sense of how difficult it can be to distinguish delusional thoughts from reality. The film also convincingly makes the case that a disordered mind can also be one of tremendous intelligence, creativity, and contribution to society and the advancement of knowledge. The overall effect is somewhat exoticizing toward the mentally ill--"look at the beautiful, fragile wild thing!"--but also genuinely moving.
