Modern Take on Classic Country submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:13pm It's easy to see why the Zac Brown Band have had so much success: this album feels like a modern spin on classic country spirit, with something for everyone. The three main musical modes are slow country ballads, bluegrass-infused odes to rural living, and (somewhat oddly, perhaps) a country-fied version of Jimmy Buffett’s signature style, all infused with a playful spirit. Zac Brown's vocals have a kind of honesty that compensates for lyrics that can be a bit on the nose (modern country singers sure do love to sing about how darn country they are), though I have some serious reservations about some of the lyrical content (“It's Not Ok” is...definitely not okay). Overall, though, I'd say you can't do much better if this is the kind of vibe you're looking for.
