Nonetheless, her brand of optimistic pop country absolutely nails the feeling of being a teenager and being in (or out) of love, both lyrically and in the vibe of the music. The album is a bit uneven in terms of song quality, with the singles and a few surprising sleepers deep into the track list standing out, but it’s worth a listen or two to find the keepers. Swift didn’t yet have a complete handle on her image going into this album, but the best songs offer a good preview of what was yet to come.
