A Rom-Com Where the Romance Isn't the Point submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 12:12pm Oddly for a romantic comedy, the relationship between the two leads is probably the weakest aspect of this film; it’s much more about found family and friendship than it is about love. This made for a somewhat disorienting experience given my expectations going in, but the dry British humor and Hugh Grant’s eternal charm (he plays essentially the same character in every romcom he’s in, for better or worse) carry the film, along with an outstanding, boisterous performance by Simon Cowell. I do wish that the romance worked in, like, any way, but the film doesn’t really need it in the end.
