Excellent submitted by lilveela on June 25, 2013, 2:20pm Although I do not enjoy horror movie in general, I enjoyed this movie a lot. I thought it was an unique twist to normal horror movies.

Wow! submitted by yenkong on August 2, 2017, 8:36pm Pretty scary this one!

The Cabin In The Woods submitted by lstorc on August 6, 2018, 12:44am Imaginatively explosive; creative mix of genres

Meta-Horror (Good for Horror Newbies) submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 9:42am Warning: This film includes gore, including typical slasher stuff and a few more gruesome moments (especially toward the end).

This film offers a new take on the traditional slasher genre, built around the traditional tale of college students being picked off one by one by supernatural forces and offering a broader context for this familiar story structure. The slasher elements are convincing, even though you continuously get a look behind the scenes, and the blend of humor and horror effectively builds suspense as the characters start to go off-script. This culminates in an outlandish finale that runs the risk of being more silly than scary, although everyone involved completely commits to the twist and makes it surprisingly convincing. Some of the genre critique detracts from the story (both on the surface and meta levels), and as always with a Joss Whedon production the film can get caught up in its own cleverness, but it comes together nicely as a critique, as a reinvention, and as an example of the thing it’s simultaneously critiquing and reinventing.
