COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Classic submitted by evelyn on July 5, 2011, 4:13pm If you liked Chicago, you should check this movie out! Generally I am not a huge fan of musicals, but the music, dancing, and politics in this movie are so well woven together I would recommend it to just about anyone. Liza Minnelli is simply fantastic in her Oscar-award winning role.

Cabaret: revisited submitted by ccrose on July 17, 2019, 10:48am I remember seeing Cabaret in 1972 when it was a mesmerizing story, with the young Liza Minnelli as the center of a swirl of a shifting culture. I checked it out to see what stood out to me now. It is the cinematography, the interior of the Kit Kat Klub, a smear of black and blood red without a single bit of sunlight. That creepy feeling, “There’s something happening here,” resonates even stronger. The one shot, the camera spinning past mirrors like those in a fun house, as the faces of patrons and the entertainers distort. The public gestures of hate and prejudice, children of Hitler’s Youth, mean so much more to me now, a much older person who has lived through waves of political and cultural shifts.

SO good--even for non-musical lovers submitted by Sockethair on July 16, 2020, 7:26pm This is such a great film. I recommend it even to those who do not usually enjoy musicals. The music actually makes sense to the plot (it is set in a cabaret--music and dance venue) and moves the plot along. Highly recommended!
