Never Underestimate This Director submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:48pm Given how anthology romantic comedies usually go, my expectations for this were quite low, but I made the mistake of underestimating Garry Marshall and honestly I should have known better. The film does suffer from the usual problems: too many characters and too many storylines given too little time to fully develop, overly predictable plotting, inconsistent and unrealistic dialogue, connections between the characters that make no sense, etc. But it does have a heart to it, with at least one of its narrative arcs (between Zac Efron and Michelle Pfeiffer, of all possible pairings) deserving of a feature-length treatment. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this; if you like romantic comedies and want something that more or less runs on autopilot, you could do a lot worse than this film.
