Anderson Cooper's intensely busy career as a journalist for CNN and CBS' 60 Minutes affords him little time to spend with his ninety-one year old mother. After she briefly fell ill, he and Gloria began a conversation through e-mail unlike any they had ever had before, a correspondence of surprising honesty and depth in which they discussed their lives, the things that matter to them, and what they still want to learn about each other.

A beautiful exchange between a mother and son submitted by kjshaffer on July 13, 2019, 6:46pm Gloria Vanderbilt had a fascinating (and at times tragic) life. I really enjoyed listening to this exchange between her and Anderson Cooper. This really painted an intimate picture of Vanderbilt and how she suffered losses, trauma, abuse, and ultimately was able to rise above it all and become her own person and succeed on her own terms. The exchanges between Gloria and Anderson as they share their pain about the suicide of her son/Anderson's brother are especially poignant.
