The First Slappening submitted by Meginator on June 23, 2021, 5:52pm Though How I Met Your Mother ran for an additional seven seasons, I think this season best exemplifies the show’s strengths. The characters are, with the possible exception at Barney, at pivotal crossroads that determine the shape of their lives, and the storylines build off of the first season’s momentum while rounding out the characters and proving that the show can, when it wants to, hit some serious emotional depth amidst all of its gleeful chaos. Most importantly, however, “Slap Bet” provides the genesis of the show’s best two running gags and the two finale episodes fully embody the show’s balance of real emotional heft and silly humor.
