As Julie begins to find her groove as a cook, and her voice as a writer, the project takes on a life of its own. The project provides the struggling young woman with her life's purpose, to her very pleasant surprise. Fun, but not accurate. submitted by Aveliney on July 7, 2018, 2:25pm It's a fun movie, but it missed some of the story of this woman's actual blog. I read the blog and it wasn't as rosy. I would have preferred that!

not completely what you would expect submitted by kbahleda on June 20, 2019, 1:53pm funny ,movie....and not completely what you would expect.

Julia parts were better than Julie ones submitted by Will O on August 28, 2020, 2:34pm Really liked the Julia and half liked the Julie portions.
I think it was a little weighted to be about the blog so understandable but it's hard to compete with Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. They're both so good, especially together and it was a nice Devil Wears Prada reunion. Speaking of reunions, future Sharp Objects couple Amy Adams and Chris Messina were the "modern" (2002) half of the story and while their part wasn't bad per se it just wasn't as interesting. Good chemistry between them and they had more funny bits but it was a little weaker for me story wise.
Toward the end where Julie finds out Julia kind of trashed talked her and her blog is kind of dropped, I would have liked at least a blurb in the credits about what was actually said and did Julia mean it, what kind of effect it actually had on Julie since they never met but there were so many parallels drawn between the two and Julie clearly worshiped Julia that it was a weird thread to introduce only to abandon without a real resolution.
Aside from that the music was the only other part of the movie I actually disliked, again mostly in the Julie parts. It was falsely cheery like some bad commercial.
Also, the fact that Julie complained about having to live above a pizza place is just not relatable at all. That's my dream. And Julia complaining about having to move from Paris to Marseille is the definition of first world problems.
At the end of the day an enjoyable watch with solid acting but not a movie I could watch over and over again.

Julie & Julia submitted by jibkidder on July 27, 2022, 10:45pm A little light for my taste but worth it for the Meryl Streep performance.
