Apu and Manjula submitted by willow on January 13, 2017, 10:38pm Hank Azaria, who is of Greek/Jewish origins, plays many characters on The Simpsons, most famously Apu. Azaria based his voice on memories of Indian and Pakistani 7-11 clerks, according to an interview with India Abroad. Apu has been a controversial character, as he is generally depicted as a typical Springfield resident aside from the Apu-centric episodes; this season contains "The Sweetest Apu," in which the Simpsons discover Apu's affair with the Squishee Delivery lady. American actress Jan Hooks voiced Manjula.
