Racing Like a Pro submitted by Caser on August 6, 2010, 1:38pm The National have long been the dolls of indie rock for their brooding brand of American rock, and one listen to their 4th LP, Boxer, cinches their place above their peers. The singular talent of vocalist Matt Berninger is the most striking appeal of the band, for his baritone melodies manage to soar above the lush arrangements despite his register, and his melancholy, truer than bone lyrics, like "You wouldn't want an angel watching over you?/Surprise surprise, they wouldn't want to watch," will simmer with you long after the last cut.

On this record, the Ohio bred, Brooklyn honed band balances their simmering slower tunes with the fist-pounding burners, striking a perfect pace from start to finish. And if they come to your area again, don't miss the 7 piece band they put together for live performances. It's a show you won't soon forget.
