At their best, Hot Chip channel the best of pop and indie music and filter it through a unique electronic ambience with a sound that emphasizes building through repetition, full of callbacks to early synthesizers remixed in a way that feels unique to them. However, most of this album feels lost, with tracks lacking direction and distinguishing features. The best are definitely worth seeking out, but the rest aren’t much to write home about.
