Kim is seventeen years-old and the pride and joy of her father, the ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills. Bryan left the agency to stay near Kim in California. Kim lives with her mother Lenore and her wealthy stepfather Stuart. Kim convinces the reluctant Bryan to sign an authorization form so she can travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. When they arrive, they share a cab with a stranger named Peter. Amanda tells him that they are alone in Paris. While Bryan is on the phone with Kim, Albanese gang members break into the apartment where the girls are staying. Bryan has Kim give him a detailed description of what she sees and hears. He tells her she is about to be kidnapped. Bryan promises Kim that he will come and get her. He immediately travels to Paris to find Kim and Amanda. He has four days to find her and he uses his special skills and contacts to get her back and seek his revenge.

The hero submitted by rosander on December 4, 2010, 11:56am You don't want to mess with Liam Neeson. Similar story to "Man on Fire". One torture scene, but it doesn't last long.

Fantasy for the father figure submitted by cherylo on July 22, 2012, 8:54pm What's a father's fantasy? To keep his daughter safe, to be the worst nightmare of those who would threaten his daughter, and to be stoic about it all the while. The story does trade in stereotypes quite a bit. The action keeps up a fast pace so you don't have time to question the story, which is good. The action is amazingly well done, including a disorientating effect with moving POV in the rougher fights. Overall pretty enjoyable as an action picture, but patronizingly paternalistic once the adrenaline wears off.

Solid action movie submitted by mbsymes on August 15, 2018, 5:04pm Most action movies don't always emotionally connect well to the goal of the protagonist (rescue someone, save country, etc.) but this movie does an excellent job at having a greater emotional depth and stakes than your typical forgetful action film.
