Read by Emily Woo Zeller.
Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if people properly simplify and organize their home once, they'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom a person to pick away at piles of stuff forever. Her method with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo's clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

Sparking Joy: A New Perspective submitted by rsa221 on August 31, 2015, 9:43pm While 100% of the advice will probably not appeal to everyone, this is one of the best books on organizing that I have read, and I highly recommend it. Feeling like a disorganized person who does not know where to start, this book gave me the blueprint and motivation to downsize my belongings to those that truly "spark joy." I am still undertaking the process, but I truly appreciate the new perspective this book gave me. It helped rid me of the guilt that decluttering (and thus eliminating items you *might* use someday, were a gift, or that you spent good money on once upon a time) can cause.

Zany but useful submitted by Kimberlyrol on July 25, 2016, 10:13pm Thank your possessions for their use when you give them away? My possessions have feelings? Hmmmm, while I don't agree with everything the other speaks of, I do think she offers a useful perspective and system on uncomplicating our lives. It has helped me to think differently about my "stuff".

YICK! submitted by 21621031390949 on August 1, 2016, 7:29pm I wanted to read this book because so many people were talking about it and Lord knows, I have clutter, but I couldn't finish it. I was listening to the recorded version, read by the author, I believe, and about 20 pages into it I was ready to strangle her. This nutcase began "tidying up" her family's home when she was just a child and her obsession has taken her over. Very know-it-all-ish for a punk in her early 20's. No thanks!

Wacky but worth it! submitted by KOH on August 2, 2017, 3:46pm Full disclosure: I actually kept a list of quotes that I could read to my husband later because Konmari's passion for tidying comes with some amusing beliefs. BUT, I tried her methods and THEY WORK. I love the concept of focusing on keeping things that bring you joy, and the emotional lightness that accompanies discarding bags and bags of unnecessary items.

My one critique is that I'd love to hear more about how to do this when you have multiple kids. Regardless, I think this endearingly wacky woman is a genius.

Great method submitted by Pooh3238 on June 26, 2018, 10:41am Great book to read if you need to de-clutter.

Helpful Book submitted by Cherrytreelane on July 29, 2018, 11:15pm Author has a lot of personal and professional experience upon which she bases her recommendations, I'm looking forward to putting them into action!
