COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Warning: spoilers ahead submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 15, 2019, 4:59pm "Supernatural" follows the adventures of brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they fight vampires, werewolves, demons and numerous other sci-fi/fantasy species, as is their family's calling. The brothers avert apocalypses (yes, multiple times) but often, as in this season, the brothers were the ones who caused the near-apocalypse by trying to rescue each other rather than save the world. Ironically, by working as hunters, Sam and Dean are supposed to be saving the world, even at risk to their own safety, but they all too often put each others' lives first instead. "Supernatural" also brings back characters, namely Sam and Dean, back from the dead so many times that one begins to wonder if death even has any meaning in the "Supernatural" universe.
On the bright side, this season includes an episode in which the Winchester brothers discover that a high school student has written and is now producing a musical about... the Winchester brothers. She based her script on the popular fantasy novel series that (within the TV series) a prophet had written without knowing he was actually documenting the lives of Dean and Sam through divine intervention. The novels' author, Chuck, thought he was just writing fictional stories that his fans love. When Dean tries to set the record straight with the high school student she just laughs at him: of course the books are just fiction! Dean is initially upset that his life as been turned into a musical because, he tells the student, "There's no singing in 'Supernatural!'" The TV episode ends particularly charmingly with the return of said prophet/author Chuck.... or so we think!
