COMMUNITY REVIEWS

really enjoyed this! submitted by arguzman on July 28, 2016, 6:55pm This show was written and directed by Mackenzie Crook himself, who does a fantastic job at both. I didn't know Gareth from the original The Office had such hidden talents! I love the fact that these characters have such a hardcore passion for something as unusual as metal detecting. The show is charming and has a lot of heart, but also lots of moments that will probably make you chuckle. The characters are such lovable dorks. Although they are flawed, you can't help but hope that everything turns out okay for them.

I highly recommend this series, it's very enjoyable and will leave you wanting more (luckily, there is a second series!)

Detectorists a GREST show !! submitted by tdsiterlet on August 21, 2016, 12:19pm Well written, well acted little program. Very subtle British humour, Clever and intelligent.

Strange characters doing strange things...and yet submitted by willow on August 24, 2016, 7:39am These are definitely oddballs, and their hobby is looking for old metal objects. However, it turns out they are kind of interesting, and sometimes hilarious, other times heart-breaking. There is a lot of digging up of old coins and searching for amazing ruins that may not exist.

(Each episode is just under 30 minutes, so these are not the nearly two hour long investments in mysteries and dramas like Foyle's War or Inspector Morse.)

yes submitted by Whitetnchina on August 30, 2016, 2:13pm Good stuff!

Great Show! submitted by strawberryhead on September 30, 2016, 4:08pm Highly recommend it.

DectorISTs! submitted by gardenfaerie on August 23, 2017, 5:19am This series is about two friends in a small town who enjoy looking for tresure lusing metal detectors. It's fuuny and poignant, with deadpan British humor and nice scenery.

Funny submitted by majean on August 5, 2018, 2:13pm This series came highly recommended, and I was not disappointed. A lot of the humor comes from the banter of the characters, and it doesn't rely on slapstick as many American comedies do. Unfortunately, this was not enough for my husband, but I loved it. To each their own.

Completely delightful! submitted by Cloverdale on August 15, 2018, 8:43pm We are completely hooked on this show. Wonderful script. Quiet humor and very well acted.

Subtle, Funny and Sweet submitted by saleder on June 29, 2020, 6:46am As I we progressed through this series, I recognized the love that Mackenzie Crook obviously has for the beautiful countryside where he pursues his hobby of metal detecting. Such a lovely pace, and the photography is lovely. As others have said, the humor is subtle, and the chemistry among all the characters is utterly captivating. Watch this if for no other reason than to see the wonderful Dame Diana Rigg play the mother to her actual daughter Rachael Sterling, two very fine actresses each in their own right. These episodes are my go-to when I want a dose of sweetness and comfort after a tough day.

Oh, look--- AADL has it on DVD as well as Blu-ray. submitted by lisa on July 27, 2021, 11:20pm Such a good show. :D
