A moving story. I liked how it brings into question the ethics of how we treat communities with intellectual disabilities. Currently there is a debate going on about the way we give vocational skills training to people with intellectual disabilities. Some say we give them unfair payment for "simple labor" and it resembles prison work, while others say they are happy to be involved and contribute to society, it occupies their day and gives meaning, it also teaches money management.
Another element that this book made me think about was about the idea of how we do research with human subjects, with and without intellectual disabilities.
It was a great story. I recommend it.
