In 1930s France, Superintendent Larosiere has a passion for beautiful women and solving cases, while hapless young inspector Lampion just tries to keep up. And in the mid-50s, ultra-suave Commissioner Laurence unravels the knottiest crimes. These French adaptations are a fresh, stylish twist on classic Christie tales.
DVD, widescreen presentation.
Contents: The A.B.C murders. -- Ordeal by innocence. -- Peril at end house. -- Cat among the pigeons. -- Sad cypress. -- The body in the library. -- They do it with mirrors.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fun at times, only Christie-*like* in sprit submitted by willow on August 3, 2015, 9:23am These French reinterpretations of Agatha Christie novels feature superintendent Larosiere, whose crime-solving philosophy mostly consists of following the adage "cherchez la femme" and inspector Lampion, who is depicted as clueless but often is essential to the crime-solving and, as a gay man, is much less distractable by the female characters. The stories bear more resemblance to Christie's than do the detectives, who lack the sort of razor sharp intellects of either Marple or Poirot. The episodes are set in 1930s France and make for interesting viewing for those not overly concerned with strict fidelity to Christie.

Strangely, the final episode of the series feature a different detective altogether, and a female journalist, in another part of France, in the 1950s. Larosiere and Lampion are not mentioned.

MHz calls this series "Agatha Christie's Family Murder Party."
