Compact discs.
Unabridged.
Read by R. C. Bray.
Mark Watney was nearly killed by a dust storm on Mars and was abandoned by his crew who thought him dead. Now he's all alone with no way of letting Earth know he's alive, which doesn't matter because his supplies would run out before they'd get there. Either way, the environment or human error will likely kill him first. Not giving in, Mark works to survive, battling obstacle after obstacle, but will it be enough?

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Scientifically Accurate submitted by Patrick McLeod on June 14, 2015, 2:12pm Although this is a work of science fiction it is likely the most scientifically accurate story I have read it years.
It is funny, well thought out and and a really enjoyable story to read (listen to).
The audio book is very well read.

Science submitted by Judeyblu on July 29, 2016, 9:22pm I am not a science nerd and would likely die in space.
That said, I enjoyed this CD set as if I'd been in space myself.
I didn't see the movie based on this book and don't think I care to (sorry Matt Damon),
Mark Watney came to life for me in this telling (Whales? Mammals?) I loved it.

going against the grain submitted by mickplu on August 11, 2016, 12:48pm Everyone told me I'd love this book, and unfortunately, even after reading it, I can't wholeheartedly agree. The plot is gripping but the dialogue doesn't seem realistic. The descriptions of technology are current, but in too much detail. The ending is great and does have a profound impact.

Listen! submitted by edb.blanchard on August 26, 2018, 7:30pm This book is so great as an audiobook because countdowns are better listened to and build tension, versus reading 10..9...8...7..your eyes can skip right over it, but the audio book forces you to listen and feel it in real time.

Worth the time! submitted by Sarahcaps on June 20, 2022, 9:43pm The narrator is fabulous, and hearing it read really adds to the experience.
