A masterful drama about the twilight of a former vaudeville star is among the writer/director's most touching films. Lemon submitted by tarascon on November 5, 2023, 10:37am I saw this when I was a teen and on this second viewing I wanted to like this more but, ultimately, it struck me as an average melodrama of its day plus it suffered from Chaplin’s underlying desire to grind an axe over the abysmal way he was treated by America.
Still, anyone who likes Chaplin ought to watch this at least once… just don’t expect much imo.
