Great Rock for Everyone submitted by Meginator on July 12, 2011, 4:09pm First things first: Switchfoot makes no apologies for their faith, but neither are they cramming it down anyone's throats, and "Oh! Gravity" is an album that can (and should) be enjoyed by any fans of good, catchy rock music. Longtime listeners can feel the band branching out a bit, to great success on tracks like the mellow, time-signature-shifting "Dirty Second Hands," which gets my vote as the album's standout track. The others, however, certainly aren't slouches, and though songs like "Oh! Gravity" and "American Dream" are fairly conventional, they represent fine works within those conventions and are catchy enough to stick with listeners. Nearly every track on this album is a highlight, and it's nice to see the brand both branch out from and reach back to the more mellow sound that dominated their previous two albums. Switchfoot show on "Oh! Gravity" that good old rock music can still be inventive when done well, and they deserve the wider fan base that an album of this quality can help them achieve. Bravo.
