Beautiful scenery, beautiful acting submitted by eapearce on May 1, 2015, 2:30pm Wow! This movie really surprised me. I read the book Wild and, although engrossed, did not really enjoy the story or Strayed's telling of it. I was also disappointed when I heard that Reese Witherspoon had been cast in the role of Cheryl Strayed for this film; she did not seem well-suited to the role in my opinion. BUT! I was proven wrong! This movie tells Strayed's story beautifully and artistically, with flashbacks of Strayed's earlier life interspersed with her time on the trail (which is, of course, extremely challenging). The scenery in the film is gorgeous, and the cast of characters in Strayed's life are portrayed wonderfully. Witherspoon does a phenomenal job playing Strayed at all points of her life. This movie is great even if you didn't read the book Wild, or if, like me, you read it and were ambivalent. Highly recommend!

Great Film! submitted by Beth Manuel on June 12, 2015, 3:34pm I wasn't sure how well the movie would translate from the book which I enjoyed. But the flashbacks and inner-speak that actress Reese Witherspoon utilized to tell Cheryl Strayed's story worked well. My husband even liked the film. Good Story. The film stayed true to the book.

thoughtfully done submitted by 23lisq on July 4, 2015, 9:07am I was impressed with Wild. Relatable storyline and well acted.

reckless submitted by lawrencekl57 on August 13, 2015, 6:36pm This movie implies that her earlier behavior was reckless. It seems at least equally reckless to go on this trek without adequate preparation.

well done and entertaining but not great submitted by strawberryhead on May 9, 2016, 11:29am I did not read the book. I did however know there was a lot of hype surrounding Reese Witherspoon being in this film. It was well acted and the scenery was good but I didn't get much substance in the film. Sure there was some flashbacks to the woman's life that would lead her to need to change her life by walking the PCT, but as in so many films these days where is the meat in a film. I feel like everything is made up of small clips because that is the attention span of so many 20 somethings and that is somehow the audience they go for, people who have to have an image change every four minutes.

Wild submitted by SBNB on July 1, 2016, 8:10pm This movie was better than I expected. Not boring at all.

Wow submitted by Maggie Walker on August 3, 2016, 7:27pm Such an interesting story of introspection...

Wild submitted by dree411 on August 5, 2016, 10:31am Such a good, inspiring movie

Good submitted by kelleyc on August 18, 2016, 7:32am Enjoyable and moving.

Adventure submitted by markwells on July 9, 2017, 1:04pm I like adventure stories like this. Having read the book I found the movie to be almost as good, which is rare. Grade: A-.

The movie is alright, but definitely read the book submitted by edb.blanchard on August 14, 2018, 7:24pm Good movie, but much more satisfying if you read the book first and notice details

Resonates more with my adult self than my teenager self submitted by timbresson on July 28, 2023, 8:19am Saw the movie when it released many years ago. Just rewatched it last night. My teenage / early 20s perspective honed in on the hardships of the physical trek and the overt fears Strayed was having. My adult perspective was utterly moved and destroyed by the mental and emotional anguish and transformation of this character. It may seem obvious to anyone that the older you get, the more you reflect on the importance of love and family and connection. But it’s good to unsettle the heart with the anguish of loss to really bring that to the surface and recall what you’re thankful for. This movie does a lot of heavy lifting (pun intended) over a thousand mile trek and is worth the near two hour run time.
