phenomenal submitted by manz on June 20, 2015, 2:18pm This movie was fantastic. Intense, yes, but amazing. And the acting1

Wow! submitted by sara on July 4, 2015, 9:11am Whiplash leaves you feeling whip-lashed (in a good way.) I would recommend it to anyone- even if you are not interested in drumming. Very well done.

Amazing submitted by jenka on July 5, 2015, 8:01pm I was at the edge of the seat for most of the movie. So good. J.K. Simmons definitely deserved his Oscar and in my opinion Miles Teller definitely was a contender as well. Definitely worth the watch.

Miles Teller impresses submitted by OrngJo on July 26, 2015, 3:06pm Great movie! It's one of those movies I hesitate recommending to just anyone though. The intensity is not appreciated by everyone, Miles Teller's performance was outstanding. I've read he practiced drumming for several months in order to bring authenticity to his performance and it paid off.

great jazz, vulgar language submitted by LVDS on August 2, 2015, 2:02pm Some may respond well to a military commando teacher, others are destroyed. Personally I wouldn't be motivated by such, yet some need it to preform beyond their belief. The music world is very competitive...as you'll see.

More cowbell. submitted by Steve Amick on August 12, 2015, 8:26am There's something about this that feels like a stage play--the rigid control, I suppose--but in a good way. It feels like Glengarry Glen Ross, in the way each line seems to be precisely delivered. Which, I suppose, makes sense, mirroring the discipline of the music. But rather than a stiff artificiality, which you might get in some stage plays, a real energy is produced.

WONDERFUL! submitted by ssmyth on August 20, 2015, 6:27pm Great acting - great movie - surprise ending. What obsession and perfection does to people. JK Simmons was AMAZING!! and I'm super glad I don't know anyone like his character.

Incredible submitted by kelleyc on July 1, 2016, 8:40am This movie was riveting from start to finish. I wish I had his dedication, but it also seems to be a fearsome thing to have. This movie won't let you tear your eyes away - not that you'd want to.

Whiplash submitted by yenkong on July 30, 2017, 12:57pm Very good movie. Intense but touching and inspiring.

Intense Character Study submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2017, 6:54pm This film is an intense, and somewhat harrowing, emotional journey and can be difficult to watch; tread lightly if you are sensitive to abusive language and/or behaviors. That said, Whiplash is a very well made film; the acting is excellent all around and carries the film through its more difficult moments, and the soundtrack is (predictably) excellent. This isn't a film I think I'll return to often, if ever, but I appreciate its artistry.

wonderful! submitted by KOH on August 2, 2017, 10:25pm I loved it. A+!

ok submitted by kbahleda on July 23, 2018, 8:43am This was an intense film. I think I would have liked it more if I was more into making music myself.

Intense submitted by c_zhang on July 5, 2019, 12:21am An intense story/film. It was interesting though.

the opposite of what I like about music submitted by tisaallen on June 15, 2022, 6:53pm I hated it.

Riveting! submitted by TeacherN on June 15, 2022, 6:55pm I never would have believed I'd like a movie like this, but I absolutely loved it.

Incredible acting submitted by bll1010 on June 11, 2023, 10:04pm The acting in this movie was truly incredible! J.R. Simmons and Miles Teller both played such intense characters with incredible skill. Fantastic movie for anyone, but bonus points if you are a music lover.
