Pop Songs to Stand the Test of Time submitted by tonyphil on July 9, 2013, 2:25pm Prepare for a treat from Gomez. This release is filled with catchy pop tunes delivered with slightly earthy vocals. While catchy, none of the songs slip into being flat or mundane. On a few tracks, the instrumentation is ever so slightly inflected with the light shuffle of great bluegrass or folk or old-timey country (e.g., the intro to "Hamoa Beach"). Others rock out, at least a bit. "See the World" is a memorable tune with a performance to match, featuring Ben Ottewell's most distinctive lead vocal; this track is still in rotation on Ann Arbor's 107one. The album How We Operate is a fair departure from their experiemental-alt rock heard on Bring It On and Liquid Skin. But Gomez' How We Operate is quality work, sure to please and impress, and should stand the test of time.
