I Want to Play This Like an Orchestra, to Reinvent This from the Inside submitted by Meginator on August 7, 2018, 4:59pm The music of Nine Inch Nails lends itself particularly well to reinterpretation, and this string quartet (wisely) opts for harsh strokes to do most of the heavy lifting in translating an electro-heavy industrial sound to the usually flightier sounds of bowed strings. The adaptation feels slightly hampered by traditional string quartet instrumentation, but the transposition mitigates this somewhat by focusing on lower registers, even in the violins. Some of the interpretation is overly literal, using a violin for the primary melody over a backing track, but, as a whole, the project invites listeners to hear new nuances in the original songs and that's what covers like this are for.
