TNP submitted by a2sue on August 13, 2015, 11:21pm "The Night Porter" is a disturbing film.

Not Casablanca submitted by mellonir on December 18, 2017, 2:10am While the subject matter may be disturbing, I didn't find the film to be so. More like boring. I like Charlotte Rampling, though I can't really say much for any of the acting, as the script was not that great (the ending will testify to that!), so the actors didn't have much to work with.
Artsy, but hardly disturbing.

One Person's Boredom Is Another Person's Fascination submitted by kathy hanke on May 17, 2021, 5:29pm Boring?! It's fascinating! I discovered it back in the '90s while researching Dirk Bogarde; I watched it a dozen times. Bogarde has written several memoirs as well as fiction. He covers the making of the film in the 2nd or 3rd memoir. There is also a book about Liliana Cavani, the director, called The Gaze and the Labyrinth; AADL doesn't have it, I'm sure MelCat will. The Night Porter is about the power -- and the limitations -- of imagination.
