COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Even grimmer submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 11, 2017, 2:52pm In season 3 of "Grimm" we learn more about the palace intrigue that mires the wesen royal family and therefore the entire wesen community in rivalries and strange alliances. The season begins with our heroes battling Baron Samdi's zombies. Note: Baron is a figure from Haitian mythology/folk legends. Of course, our main characters survive and their love lives continue a pace.
Here's the back story: the first season of "Grimm" introduces us to Nick, a Portland, Oregon cop, who suddenly learns he is the descendent of a line of monster-killers, known as Grimms. The pleasant career and domestic life he built for himself suddenly changes as he befriends some of these "wesen" (pronounced "vessen," the German term for the monsters and were-creatures) and fights others, including the ones who killed his aunt, who had raised him and left him her collection of books on wesen and her old-fashioned weapons.
Many of the individual episodes feature plot lines or motifs from actual fairy tales, including Cinderella and Red Riding Hood. The series includes tales and mythical figures from numerous cultures, although mostly European ones. The show also uses numerous German terms (or at least words that sound German, but that the show writers may have invented).
Each episode starts with a quotation from a fairy tale (usually from the collection by the Brothers Grimms) that pertains to the story line, moral, theme or motif of that episode. The costumes, make-up and prosthetics give the wesen an eerily realistic look.
