Narrated by Emily Woo Zeller.
Few of us realize what strange wet miracles of science operate inside us after every meal. In her trademark style, Mary Roach investigates the beginning, and end, of our food, addressing such questions as why crunchy food is so appealing, how much we can eat before our stomachs burst, and whether constipation killed Elvis.

A Super Gulp

I'm not usually a fan of audiobooks, but this one sucked me right in and held me all the way through. The narrator, Emily Woo Zeller, is wonderfully engaging, and paired with Mary Roach's excellent and entertaining writing makes this a treat.
I kind of knew how digestion works. You eat something, it goes down your throat and to your stomach, then through a series of tubes where your body absorbs nutrients, and then you, *AHEM*, heed the call of nature. This book gets you a much more in-depth look at each of the parts of the digestive system, from the science of taste to the contents of poop. All those why and how questions you were too afraid (or grossed out) to askâthey're in here, sometimes with even more information than you really wanted.
Listen for some of the cool Michigan connections through the Kellogg brothers in Battle Creek and Dr. Beaumont on Mackinac Island. Listeners with light stomachs might want to keep a hand near the fast=forward button during some of the more, shall we say, well-described chapters.
