How do you deal with a fallout of Heavenly proportions? With the angelic Host's descent to Earth. Sam and Dean now face a world inhabited by thousands of powerful beings which soon form their own chaotic agendas. Before tackling the threat of the "loose nukes" roaming the globe, the Winchesters engage in their most personal conflict yet. Meanwhile, Castiel finds he's more vulnerable - and yet capable of more humanity - than ever. As the threat escalates, a way must be found to reopen the gates of Heaven and head off a demon insurrection in Hell. Throughout, darkness leaves its mark on Dean: has he finally crossed the line to protect his family?

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fun family fare submitted by garotagretta on July 23, 2016, 12:13pm I enjoy this long-running series. It is something I can watch with my teenage son. It's a good mix of silly and spooky and the constant references to pop culture, old and new, are fun. The actors know the show is sort of silly which is part of what makes it work.

Warning: spoilers ahead submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 16, 2019, 2:29pm The ninth season of "Supernatural" begins with angels falling from Heaven (but not thereby becoming demons, another of the show's deviations from orthodox Christianity, despite the fact that the show is mostly based on that religion's cosmology). Most angels are mean, selfish beings who trick humans into letting them possess their bodies, and get into an angel versus angel gang war. Good times!
Meanwhile, the Winchester brothers are trying to turn a demon back into a human. This process does not make sense even within the logic of the show, wherein usually has demons possessing human bodies rather than being humans who became supernaturally evil; even this process is yet another deviation from orthodox Christianity.
The attempt to de-demonize someone, of course, goes wrong.
In the process of trying to save each other the brothers (again!) made some literal deals with the devil and other unsavory characters. These choices end up endangering each other, the entire planet and ultimately their brotherly relationship.
Yet, the show is still entertaining. Watch this season before you watch any subsequent ones as later seasons begin to reference previous episodes as the series progresses.
