Bold, new world submitted by parlettes on July 18, 2020, 1:14am While the Netflix series is binge-worthy, the world Sapkowski has created will bring you in and not let you go. It's compelling, engaging, creative and wholly interesting. Prepare to get sucked in.
Another great book in the Series submitted by sbtaylor on August 22, 2020, 12:44pm For some reason, I've jumped around in the Witcher series while reading - so I ended up reading this book twice. Both times it was very interesting. As a stand alone it is good, and after reading the others in this series it's even better as it explains a lot important background.
Loved it submitted by rishikabhutani on March 12, 2022, 5:37pm I watched the show before reading the book, which was a mistake but also provided some of the context that was missing from the book. I liked the short story format, which made it easy to read over a short duration of time (I read the whole thing over spring break). I think the differences between the book and the show were interesting, but not glaring. I think the show did a good job of being true to the book!
Nice Journey

A series of stories told almost retrospectively from the protagonist's point of view, as he recovers from another work-related injury. The characters are wonderfully nuanced (and much more competent and well-written than their netflix counterpart). It's at turns sad, intense, dark and humorous. An example of the humor: the part where Yennefer casted her spell actually made me laugh, the whole affair is strangly petty and absurd, yet very true to who she is.
Some salt to the recent show: they could have spent some good production money on making a better Djinn fight. The Djinn fight is phenominal compared to all other fights in this book, as it has two powerful magic-wielding individuals (Djinn and Yennefer) batteling each other as the surrounding town is torn to shambles. Instead they invested it on unnecessary add-ons like Ciri in the Woods. They didn't even let Yen actually fight the Djinn, instead she decided it's wise to "become it's vessel" as if it's a good stratigic decision to let something control your body & mind. They also cut out Geralt and Yennefer's argument during the fight. which in my opinion is a better way at establishing the basis and strength of her character than the thing the show did.
