The Great Canadian Tragedy: A Reminder Story submitted by ekjensen on July 4, 2018, 11:09pm This book is a must read, as Mr Bacon has analyzed this horrific event from beginning to end, personalized and traced families before and after the event, and draws the reader in when the humanitarian efforts and kindness of people to balance and soften the terrible blow of this explosion on the entire community of Halifax in 1917.

Very thorough and thematic submitted by mbleed on July 17, 2018, 7:30am It is researched and presented very well. I really could feel the time and place while reading it

Wonderful book - North American history you may not know submitted by pk on July 21, 2019, 5:13pm This was a huge tragedy that not many know about now. During WWI, a huge explosion took place in Halifax Harbor causing immense damage and loss of life. This book tells it all The story of this horrific tragedy and its aftermath is wonderfully told, explained, analyzed, and made real with the stories of the people who lived through it (and some who didn't). It's a great human story, not dry or academic at all. The events that lead to the explosion, the horror of the tragedy, and how everyone coped afterward are all there. Definitely worth a read for those interested in North American history.
