Genre-Bending Goodness submitted by lcbuday on August 19, 2018, 1:38pm This book is a TIME. Unsurprisingly, Kristin Cashore has written a novel that packs a punch- just like all her other books. I was interested to see what she'd do with a non-high-fantasy genre, and boy did I get to, because this book has NO LESS THAN 5 GENRES. To break it down (somewhat) simply: Jane, college dropout, reeling from the recent death of the aunt who raised her, accepts an invitation to her wealthy friend's manor house, Tu Reviens. There, she faces a seemingly minor decision that will drastically alter the course of her life. For each of Jane's potential choices, there is a story. I'm not going to explain it more than that, because the mind-bending nonsense that is this book should be experienced firsthand. I will say that I thought the conclusion was weak, but everything leading up to it is a wild and trippy ride, filled with everything from art heists to umbrella construction to spine-tingling horror.
