The Harsh Realities of Polar Exploration submitted by Meginator on July 27, 2018, 10:01pm This is a great book to introduce younger readers to the difficulties of 19th-century polar exploration. The authors strike a good balance between telling the true story of the ill-fated Franklin Northwest Passage expedition- even the horrifying parts- and doing so without too many gruesome details. The inclusion of facsimile archival documents is an inspired touch and lends the book an air of excitement as readers can see for themselves what the participants made of their situations.
