I wanted to like it submitted by FordAlpha on August 21, 2018, 10:25pm I wanted to like this story of a friendship built on a common interest, but I just didn't. My kids didn't care for the story either; one reading was enough. It's hard to say exactly why this book didn't "click" with us. The style of the illustrations didn't appeal to me, and the text felt clunky. It didn't quite seem right to describe the young girl whom Fred the beaver befriends as a "lumberjack". But "Fred and the Lumberjack" certainly has attractive qualities, and I'm sure that some readers will find it perfect, and quickly add it to their list of favorites. Go ahead and give it a try!
