Beautifully illustrated book about understanding and tolerance submitted by hgerety on July 22, 2020, 4:07pm This is a stunning book -- large format, full of beautiful, full-color matte illustrations. The Secret of Black Rock tells the story of a girl who goes out to sea in her mother's boat to learn the truth of the mysterious rock that all the villagers are afraid of -- but what she finds isn't what she expected.

The Secret of Black Rock tells a lovely story about understanding and tolerance without feeling preachy. I also appreciate the gentle subversion of gender expectations (the main character is a girl, and it's her mom's boat).

Highly recommend for children of all ages.
