Henry "Monty" Montague was bred to be a gentleman. His passions for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men, have earned the disapproval of his father. His quest for pleasures and vices have led to one last hedonistic hurrah as Monty, his best friend and crush Percy, and Monty's sister Felicity begin a Grand Tour of Europe. When a reckless decision turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt, it calls into question everything Monty knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

Great story submitted by edb.blanchard on August 14, 2018, 7:43pm A unique theme for a YA novel. It's historical fiction, with a great twist because it is young characters seeking adventure and coming of age!
Great fun! - The audio version is sublime! submitted by TeacherN on August 9, 2019, 7:16pm A wonderfully fun historic adventure tale with a bisexual lead who (among other things) learns about his white male privilege and his self worth. Not at all preachy - just lots of fun! It includes references to sex and getting drunk - but I still listened to it with two adolescent boys (13 and 15) and they loved it! I highly recommend the audio version; the voice actor is outstanding!

One of the most entertaining books I have ever read. I want more. Immediately.
The characters are such a riot, especially the POV, Monty. Even when he's being a total cad, and bumbling his way through high society, he is immensely lovable and his missteps are all the more hilarious. I commend the author for teaching readers, in a round about way, about white privilege, and feminism in little issues that arise with Monty. Things he does, but doesn't realize others can't or can't get away with rather, because they are people of color or women. So thank you, Mackenzi Lee, for writing not just a highly enjoyable story, but also paying attention to social issues of the time that translate to today as well.
I really really really want another Mackenzi Lee story of this same caliber! Such great storytelling & character development *dreamy sigh*
Great Writing submitted by Lee Bee on June 24, 2023, 10:06pm This book is amazingly written! Lee spends sufficient times on details when necessary but makes sure the story continues at a pace that keeps the readers attention. Her degree in history really shows, using vocabulary and expertise to keep us in the time period yet still making sense to the modern reader, making it one of the best historical fiction work I've seen in a long time if not ever.
