"Jabari is definitely ready to jump off the diving board. He's finished his swimming lessons and passed his swim test, and he's a great jumper, so he's not scared at all. "Looks easy," says Jabari, watching the other kids take their turns. But when his dad squeezes his hand, Jabari squeezes back. He needs to figure out what kind of special jump to do anyway, and he should probably do some stretches before climbing up onto the diving board. In a sweetly appealing tale of overcoming your fears, newcomer Gaia Cornwall captures a moment between a patient and encouraging father and a determined little boy you can't help but root for."--Amazon.com.

Love this book! submitted by purplelily on August 7, 2018, 10:49pm I love the theme of this story. The relationship between the dad and also what the little boy learns and experiences makes this a great book for kids to read with parents.
Sweet story submitted by JennJenn on June 12, 2021, 10:35pm This is a great picture book, sweet and encouraging.
Conquering Anxiety submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:22pm This gentle picture book provides a charming little story about a boy who learns to conquer his fear of the high dive, with a little help from his father. The illustrations are gorgeous and incorporate a lot of textural contrasts, with Cornwall making especially great use of color and shading to depict the water. The book’s advice for conquering anxiety could be a useful tool for some readers, but I feel that the story almost shortchanges Jabari’s very real (and very understandable) anxiety with its assumption that his fear could be conquered so immediately and easily. Nonetheless, most readers will benefit from watching Jabari overcome his hesitations to discover something surprising.
