A long wait submitted by FordAlpha on August 11, 2019, 9:24pm Rabbit keeps Badger guessing all day long as he awaits the arrival of something amazing. Meanwhile, they examine the small wonders of their forest surroundings: tree rings, a butterfly. In real life, I love to spend contemplative time looking closely at natural things, but when it comes to picture books, I guess my kids and I don't have Rabbit's or Badger's attention span. We guessed what Rabbit was waiting for pretty quickly and got bored of the wait, unable to suspend disbelief that these critters could hang about like that all day long. My energetic kids certainly didn't want to hang about so long before the big reveal. The text and illustrations are pleasant and serene, straightforward, constructed with evident skill and artistry. It just didn't work well as a read-aloud for my family.
