Weird Connections & Causation in Food History submitted by sdunav on June 18, 2017, 2:05pm This is a very idiosyncratic look at culinary history – with chapters best read as separate essays, I think. It's enjoyable if you take it tongue in cheek and enjoy Nealon’s sense of humor (which I did). Absolutely gorgeous illustrations. Some of the history covered: the adoption and spread of carp (from the Middle Ages & Crusades to the US), France and the bubonic plague and lemonade, cacao and dark chocolate’s spread (did it cause the French Revolution?), and brown sauce in the UK.
