Amazing story for the right age

This book is just the right level of scary and adventurous for your ~4 year old.
Spoilers follow:
As a parent reading out loud the first time through, I admit I panicked when the main character's hand got bitten off, but the recovery was amazing and turned it into one of my daughter's favorites.
