What is it like to have to leave everything behind and travel many miles to somewhere unfamiliar and strange? A mother and her two children set out on such a journey; one filled with fear of the unknown, but also great hope. Based on the author's interactions with people forced to seek a new home, and told from the perspective of a young child.

Gorgeous and Moving
submitted by evelyn on June 27, 2017, 12:23pm
If you want to explain the current refugee crisis to a little one, this is a wonderful place to start. This gentle and moving book is narrated by a child who has to leave home because of a war. Sanna never specifies where the family starts from, nor the country that they are traveling to, making this story applicable to many parts of the world.
The illustrations in The Journey are simply stunning. I was moved to tears by this beautiful story and would recommend it to anyone, not just children.
The Journey submitted by SBNB on August 22, 2017, 9:13pm This book is about refugees fleeing war to find safety. It seems to mirror the Syrian crisis right now, though the author states that she took stories from many different people. It’s a good book to start a conversation about refugees and such with small children.
