Enjoyable Read submitted by jaimonr on July 12, 2018, 11:47am I have read many of Philippa Gregory's books on the royal family. This book however is very different. It's a retelling of how Alexandrina Victoria became Queen Victoria and her relationship with Price Albert. She was the longest reigning monarch(63 years), than the current Queen Elizabeth the 2nd; her great- great grand daughter. The books also portrays the complex political relationship between Parliament and ruler in a constitutional monarchy. Her relationship with the then Prime Mister Melbourne who she fondly calls Lord M, became her ally and confidant giving her confidence to rule, in-spite of her being 18 at the time of becoming queen.

If you are a fan of the British Royal family this is a must read.

PBS Masterpiece has made this book into a 2 part series. Season 1 can be found at https://aadl.org/catalog/record/10291598.
