Wonderful Book for Beginning Readers submitted by skcramer on July 15, 2013, 8:26pm Piggie is invited to her first party but doesn’t know what to do so she asks her friend Gerald – who knows parties – for help. The party outfits Piggie and Gerald concoct in an effort to be prepared for all events will surely tickle any reader’s funny bone while the ending packs a final twist that’s sure to make readers laugh out loud. The humor of this early reader is pitched perfectly for its audience while the subject, going to a first party, is one to which many young readers will relate. The text is minimal, consisting solely of single sentence dialogue, which is cleverly depicted in speech bubbles color-coded for each character. Much of the story is told through the cartoonish illustrations, and a solid white background allows readers to focus on the actions and expressions of each character. Highly recommended for beginning readers.

Great on many levels submitted by krayla on June 12, 2015, 9:40pm I love the Elephant and Piggie series for its sophisticated humor in relation to such typical life obstacles. In this one Piggie's been invited to a party, but she's never been to one before. Gerald, the self-professed expert on parties, promises to properly prepare her. But, as in many of the other books in the series, Gerald's anxieties start to kick in. What if it's a pool party? Or a costume party? Or both?? This, like many of Mo Willems's other books, is a diamond in the rough.
